An inorganic iron oxide red/brown, a synthetic sibling of the naturally occurring burnt sienna/english red/indian red pigments. Whereas the yellow shade red oxide is more of a burnt orange or brownish scarlet red, this blue shade variety is more of a brownish crimson/wine red. As such, it serves well for deepening reds or creates very intense darks when mixed with phthalo or ultramarine blue. Its naturally darker masstone gives it more opacity/covering power, but it can still make interesting glazes when required.
