120ml Slow Drying Paint Additive

A balanced mix of glycols with a low vapor pressure that can be used to thin water based paint instead of water. At room temperature it dries up to 10x slower than water and so retards the drying time of the paint film.
It also allows easier blending by increasing the spreading properties of the paint film, the paint becomes noticeably 'greasier' feeling, moving and blending more like an oil paint.
The slow dry additive is clear and so, like when thinning with water, it will increase transparency of the paint.
The applied paint will have a dramatically extended 'open' time, but if desired the drying can be hastened using a hairdryer on warm setting, to increase the evaporation rate of the additive.
** Additional notes :
- Add incrementally in small amounts until the desired drying time is achieved. Alternatively, it can be added to the mixing water if using thinned paint.
- When using Acrylic paints the Acrylic emulsion binder dries in 2 stages, firstly they dry by evaporation, as the water (or additive) leaves the emulsion, Secondly the acrylic monomer molecules then start to cross link and form complex polymer chains, this process continues for some weeks after the paint film is touch dry and the paint layer continues to strengthen.
- The slow dry additive slows down the evaporation and cross-linking process so even when a painting that has been completed with the use of slow dry additive is dry to the touch, we recommend leaving the painting to fully cure for at least 2 weeks before adding any protective varnish.
